Würzburg

Spot information

Marienberg Fortress in Würzburg, once the seat of power for the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg, stands majestically at an elevation of 267 meters above the old town. Its origins date back to the early 11th century, with the oldest parts of the complex, including the Marienkirche, stemming from that period. Over the centuries, the fortress was extensively remodeled and expanded, particularly during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, significantly shaping its appearance. Today, the fortress serves not only as the Museum for Franconia but also as a cultural center, surrounded by historic vineyards and the park of the 1990 State Garden Show.
